Emergency nursing care for patients who are in immediate need of medical attention to avoid long-term disability or death. Emergency nurses care for people who are unable to get primary medical care and unable to reach emergency departments for help. Emergency nurses are skilled in caring conditions such as a stroke, heart attack or major trauma, Acute alcohol and/or drug intoxication, psychiatric and behavioral problems. Emergency nurses are skilled at quick, accurate physical examination and primary recognition of life-threatening conditions. It is a challenging task for Emergency nurses to perform all work quickly and correctly in an ever-changing environment. Functions specific to emergency nursing are:

Surgical nursing specializes in perioperative care provided to surgical patients before, during, and after surgery. There are different kinds of surgical nurses, and surgical nursing as a career is very demanding. In a pre-operative care unit, a surgical nurse helps to prepare a patient for surgery, both physically and emotionally. Surgical nurses explain the procedure to the patient, ease worries about the upcoming surgery and recovery and also check the patient's vitals, administer medications, and help to sterilize and mark the surgical site.
