Obstetrical nursing provides prenatal care and testing, care for patients with pregnancy complications, during labor and delivery, and for patients following delivery. Obstetrical nurses work closely with obstetricians, midwives, and other nurse practitioners. Obstetrical nurses also perform post-operative care in the surgical unit, cardiac monitoring stress test evaluations, vascular monitoring, and health assessments. They have specialized skills such as neonatal resuscitation, electronic fetal monitoring, nonstress tests and medication administration by continuous intravenous drip.Gynaecology nursing cares for diseases or disorders concerning the reproductive organs; uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries and vagina from the onset of puberty through menopause and beyond. Gynaecology Nurse also cares for problems related to bowel, bladder and urinary system as these are closely related to the female reproductive system. Other female genital diseases treated by GN’s are yeast and bacterial infections, painful intercourse, irregular and painful menstruation and other diseases related to menopause that require surgery.
